I am both a board certified Pediatrician and a board certified Pediatric Pulmonologist (lung and asthma doctor). Upon completion of my training, I worked in a private practice with Allergists and other Pulmonologists in New Jersey. The pediatric section of this practice was in its early stages which afforded me the opportunity to also spend time working with the Sleep Specialists. Although the experience I gained there was invaluable, the distance I had to travel from my husband in Greenwich made this job impractical.

Fortunately, in 2008, I was able to find a position closer to home at the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center. I had a busy Pulmonary and Asthma practice as well as an academic position as the hospital Medical Director for Touro Medical College. This job entailed updating the resident teaching curriculum and supervising the clinical education of the residents and medical students in both my Pulmonary and Primary Pediatric practices. I loved teaching the new doctors, but found it frustrating to practice medicine in a clinic setting where we would see more than 100 patients per day. How do you teach someone to be a caring empathetic doctor when the sheer volume prohibited any meaningful connection from occurring?

2010 was an exciting year when I met Dr. Erik Cohen and learned about Next Generation Pediatrics. This practice fully encompasses my philosophy that care of a patient extends well beyond simply making a diagnosis. It means connecting with the family and figuring out the best treatment for them. It means truly being there for them as they navigate the course of parenthood. This applies to all situations from the first time parents who are concerned about appropriate feeding and sleeping schedules to the family caring for a child with a severe chronic medical condition. To use a well known cliché, I could finally practice what I tried to teach.

I Married Dr. Adam Messenger in May of 2010. Now both my husband and I work in the community where we live. He is an internist and the Chief Medical Information Officer at Greenwich Hospital. We love spending time with our 3 nieces, Talee, Cayce, and Jaime as well as our Lop Bunny Daisy.
